I am an experienced teacher of 34 years. I had taught for
twenty-five years in several kibbutzim, and all my students
mastered the English language. Teaching the skill of reading
was the easiest part. When I left the kibbutz in 1987 and
started teaching English in Jerusalem, I was shocked to
discover the magnitude of the problem presented by the
English language, particularly reading it. To my dismay I
discovered that at least 20% of the students finish school
unable to read English. Dyslexia is not to be blamed. Only
some of these students suffer from it. Some are learning
disabled and more are merely the victims of the methods that
are being used while teaching them English. Research has
proved that about 30% of the people cannot learn to read if
the method is not global, especially English which is not a
phonetic language. Yet the conventional method of teaching
the reading of English in Israel is phonetic.
I wrote GAME in order to address this problem. First I wrote
an experimental edition, and next, the present one which has
been approved by the Ministry of Education. Those who had
tried the method have on the whole succeeded. Since I wrote
the books hundreds of people – young and old, teacher and
student - have been using GAME with great success.
